Horizon is a desktop and application virtualization platform from VMware. It allows you to deliver virtual desktops and applications to end users over the network. In order to use Horizon, you need to have a valid license key.
There are three major usage scenarios for Horizon customers:
● Horizon 8 Stand-alone: These customers primarily use Horizon 8 Console and vCenter for managing their environments. The relevant licenses used are Perpetual and Term. Many of these Horizon license bundles include vSphere for Desktop license as well.
● Horizon 8 Cloud Connected: These customers primarily use Horizon 8 Console and vCenter for managing their environments. The relevant licenses used are Horizon SaaS (Plus or Universal). Some of them have also cloud connected their Horizon 8 pods to the Horizon Control Plane (both First Gen or Next Gen) for license management and additional SaaS services. Many of these Horizon license bundles also include vSphere for Desktop license.
● Horizon Cloud on Azure: These customers primarily use the Horizon Cloud Console / Horizon Control Plane for managing their environments. The relevant licenses used are Horizon Universal SaaS. As these environments run on native Azure, there is no vSphere dependency.
Process to Obtain License Keys for Horizon 8 Stand-alone Customers
Horizon 8 Stand-alone customers who have purchased Perpetual or Term Horizon Licenses will find their Horizon keys migrated to the Omnissa Customer Connect portal at https://customerconnect.omnissa.com/home For those Horizon 8 stand-alone customers who have bought the Horizon Bundles that included a vSphere for Desktop license, you will find your vSphere license key in the Broadcom portal at https://support.broadcom.com/. vSphere licenses and vSAN licenses bought separately from Horizon bundle can also be found in your account on the Broadcom portal. Any new purchases after May 12, 2024, will be based on the new Horizon Combined Offering with Broadcom (which contains the new Vmware Foundation for VDI, or VVF for VDI SKU). Those new VVF for VDI infrastructure license keys will be emailed to you directly from Broadcom and uploaded to your Broadcom support portal shortly after you place the order. Horizon license keys associated with the new purchases will be available in your EUC portal at https://customerconnect.omnissa.com/home For the new combined offering, if you run into any issue with the new VVF for VDI license keys, please open a ticket with Broadcom support. If you run into any issue with the Horizon license keys, please open a non-technical ticket with EUC at https://customerconnect.omnissa.com/home
Process to Obtain License Keys for Horizon 8 Cloud Connected Customers
Horizon 8 Cloud Connected customers do not need a license key to unlock Horizon 8, but instead will onboard to the Horizon Control Plane for license management. That process has not changed. If you have bought a Horizon Universal or Plus SaaS license that bundles a vSphere for Desktop, the process for obtaining the vSphere infrastructure license key has changed. Previously, Horizon Control Plane / Universal Console had a feature that generated license keys for vSphere license keys. While the key generation process is no longer available, Horizon Control Plane has retained many customers’ vSphere infrastructure license keys, so you may still be able to find your key on your horizon Control Plane. Note that these keys must be migrated to the Broadcom support portal and be purged from the Horizon Control Plane once the EUC has divested from Broadcom. We recommend that customers locate their vSphere infrastructure license key now and store it in a secure manner in the event of any potential, temporary disruption to the migration process. . If you are not able to see your infrastructure license key, please email euc-licensemanagement.pdl@broadcom.com for assistance. These license keys were never in your Vmware Customer Connect portal and therefore they did not bulk migrate to the Broadcom support portal, so you are unlikely to find them in your Broadcom Support portal until key migration has been completed. Any new purchases after May 12, 2024, will be based on the new Horizon Combined Offering with Broadcom (which contains the new Vmware Foundation for VDI, or VVF for VDI SKU). Those new infrastructure license keys will be provided to you directly from Broadcom and uploaded to your Broadcom support portal shortly after you place the order. If you run into any issue with the VVF for VDI license keys, please open a ticket with Broadcom support. Horizon Universal and Plus SaaS licenses do not require license keys, and the process for onboarding to the Horizon Control Plane for license management remains the same as before.
Process to Obtain Temporary License Keys for Horizon 8 and vSphere
Temporary license keys are usually given for 2 purposes, either for customer evaluation or as a stop- gap measure to prevent a production environment from shutting down if the license has expired and the renewal process has been delayed. The previous process for obtaining temporary license keys has changed. For temporary license keys for Horizon 8, please contact euc-licensemanagement.pdl@broadcom.com. EUC is working on a new automated process which will take time to roll out. In the interim, the best course of action is manual through contacting euc-licensemanagement.pdl@broadcom.com. Note that we will prioritize production use case over eval licenses. For temporary license keys for vSphere infrastructure license, please follow the process outlined in https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/263840/broadcom-trial-software-
and-proof-of-con.html If you are not able to find help and need urgent assistance, please contact euc-licensemanagement.pdl@broadcom.com
Process for Horizon Cloud on Azure Customers
Horizon Cloud on Azure uses the Horizon SaaS licenses and has no vSphere dependency. Therefore, the existing process applies with no changes and impact. Note that access to Horizon Cloud on Azure SaaS trial may be temporarily delayed, so please be patient after you put in your trial request.
