What is DNS spoofing?

DNS spoofing, also known as DNS cache poisoning, is a cyberattack where an attacker manipulates the DNS (Domain Name System) to redirect traffic from a legitimate website to a malicious one. The DNS is responsible for translating human-readable domain names (like `example.com`) into IP addresses that computers use to locate each other on the internet.

In a DNS spoofing attack:

1. **The attacker injects false DNS entries** into the cache of a DNS server.

2. **Users attempting to visit legitimate websites** are redirected to fraudulent or malicious sites without their knowledge.

3. **Consequences** can include phishing, malware distribution, or data theft, as users believe they are interacting with a legitimate site.

This attack exploits vulnerabilities in the DNS system and can result in compromised security and privacy for users.
