What is NITI Aayog?

NITI Aayog, or the National Institution for Transforming India, is a policy think tank of the Government of India. It was established in 2015 to replace the Planning Commission. Its primary role is to provide strategic and technical advice to the central and state governments in India.

Main functions of NITI Aayog:


1. Policy Formulation and Innovation: NITI Aayog creates and promotes policies aimed at fostering sustainable development and addressing socio-economic challenges.

2. Fostering Cooperative Federalism: It encourages collaboration between the central and state governments for better policy implementation.

3. Monitoring and Evaluation: The institution monitors the performance of government initiatives and policies to ensure efficient implementation.

4. Promoting Innovation and Technology: It focuses on using new technologies for solving developmental challenges.

5. Advisory Role: It offers advice on matters ranging from infrastructure to education, healthcare, and agriculture.

NITI Aayog’s CEO and Vice Chairman are appointed by the government, and it also includes various experts, academics, and policy-makers from different sectors to provide broad perspectives.
