How to install Firefox on Windows?

Before installing Firefox, ensure your Windows PC meets the system requirements. Note that Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025, so consider upgrading to Windows 11 for ongoing security updates.

Standard Installation (Recommended)

This method downloads the installer directly from Mozilla’s servers.

1.  Open any web browser (like Microsoft Edge) and go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/.

2.  Click the Download Now button. The Firefox installer will download automatically (it selects the best version for your system).

•  On Windows 10, you might see a warning for non-Microsoft Store apps—click Open file in the Downloads notification.

•  In other browsers, save the file and double-click it to run. If a security warning appears, click Run or Open.

3.  If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow the installation. This installs Firefox for all users in the Program Files directory.

•  Tip: Running as an admin ensures it’s available system-wide; otherwise, it installs per-user.

4.  Wait for the installation to complete (it usually takes a minute).

5.  Firefox will launch automatically to the welcome page. Read the Terms of Use and Privacy Notice, then click Continue. You can skip optional steps like importing data from other browsers.

6.  To launch later, double-click the Firefox icon on your desktop or search for it in the Start menu.

Alternative: Install from Microsoft Store

This is simpler if you prefer app store integration (requires Windows 10 or 11).

1.  Click the Windows Start button (or press the Windows key).

2.  Type Microsoft Store and open it.

3.  In the search bar, type Firefox and press Enter.

4.  Select Mozilla Firefox from the results.

5.  Click Get (or Install if it’s not free) to download and install.

Additional Notes

•  For a custom offline installer (e.g., for enterprise setups), visit the custom installation guide.

•  If you already have an older version of Firefox, it will update during this process—check update instructions if needed.

•  Installation is free and takes about 100-200 MB of space. If you encounter issues, ensure your antivirus isn’t blocking the download.
